Latitude

Firstly I have changed my mind on the ironic title of this blog "Dont go changing" and decided on the title of it's first entry instead. The problem with irony is that unless it is really really ironic it loses it's value with time and in the end people look at it at face value and will think Billy Joel is the banner artist to our musical taste. I always think of poor Harry Enfield when his ironic character "Loadsa Money" became an aspirational figure to half the country's youth and he had to kill him off.

Went to Latitude this weekend together with family and Roger and Simon and their families. We had a great few days and saw and heard some great music. Discoveries for me were Tom Baxter, RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, Ra Ra Riot, Silversun Pickups and even CSS although it highlighted the difference between live and recorded music. I'm much more positive about live music than recorded in that anyone with stage presence and some musical ability will entertain me live but I am much more fussy about what comes through my headphones. Damien Rice, The good the bad & the queen lived up to my high expectations and finally and briefly I thought The Broken Family band were awesome - why are they not so much bigger as a band??

Sadly had to miss both Jarvis and the Arcade Fire for whom I would have swapped most of the above but I had to be in another place, I will get vicarious pleasure/envy from hearing Roger's detailed report later in the week.
